A PCQACL Milestone - LAUNCHING of The First Monograph
As part of its activities to achieve its 6-point objectives, soon the PCQACL monograph for the Standardization and Harmonization of CBC will be out in bookstores nationwide. It’s launching is held at the Opening Ceremonies of the 8th PCQACL Annual Convention. As its name states, this book’s main purpose for being is to standardize and harmonize the testing and reporting of a very important laboratory test – the CBC – the one test that determines who is well and unwell in any healthcare facility. This monograph will be used for throughout the country, in all categories of laboratories of whatever size and location, whether government or private, hospital-based or free-standing in order to give all Filipinos the same quality health care wherever they may be.
The CBC monograph is a project of the Committee on Education and Research, with Dr. Marissa A. Orillaza as its Chairman. The members are Dr. Grace A. Jatico-Dela Calzada, Dr. Arvin Faundo, and Mr. Edgar Liu. Utilizing their own experiences, training, and research, plus the Consensus-building outputs, the Team put together, and edited the literature search done by Dr. Donaldson Gadingan, DPSP with Medical Technologists, Ms.Teresita Amores, Ms. Felicitas Aquino, and Ms. Rosario Sio. Consensus-building was culminated by consultative meetings with various stakeholders. Highlights of this book include the consensus generated from around the country in various consensus building seminar-workshops in and the trainings in CBC. The manuscript went through editing after editing, then sent for book evaluation, was re-edited and book reviewed. Again, it went through another series of editing taking into account comments and suggestions by evaluator and peer reviewer, and finally printing- PRAISE GOD for “it is He who provides the ability to produce…!”
Other consensus building training seminar workshops conducted were Point Of Care Testing, Stool Analysis, Routine Urinalysis. Also done were refresher courses related to the Clinical Laboratory practice of hematology, phlebotomy, parasitology, clinical microscopy, medical microbiology, clinical chemistry, laboratory safety, and establishing a quality assurance program.
Participants to consensus-building highly appreciated the refresher courses conducted and they craved for more of the like. This was affirmed by almost always an “all-seats taken” attendance to these trainings conducted by the Committee on Education and Research, whether in Metro Manila or in the regions . In addition to the lecturers composed of the Committee on Education and Research, the trainers included those from the different medical specialty societies and the Med Techs from both the academe and practice. Among the academician- practitioners who have generously given of their time, talent , and skills include, Atty. Conrado C. Fallorin, who is also a medical technologist, who tackled varied medico-legal issues; Dr. Leilani Asis- Mercado, on Diabetes Control and Interpretation of Tests; Dr. Remedios A. Magkasi, Dr. Manuel Barnes, Dr. Rosella Montano, Ms Ruth Pineda, MSMT, PhD candidate; Mr. Oliver Dumaoal, MSMT, Ms. Winifreda De Leon. Our industry partners from Zafire Distributors were Mr. Manuel Alonzo, Ms. Denise Uy-Raniola, Ms. Leisa Hernandez, Mr. Melvin Martinez, Ms Jocelyn Gomeseria, Mr Mark Vincent Ong, Ms Sandi Hermano, Mr. Alwyn Gisell Mara, and Ms. Sherry Montevirgen. Mr Anthony Aytona of Becton Dickinson (Phil) also served as facilitator who was very animated and informative in how he conducted the demonstration on the art and science of phlebotomy.
