Profile of PCQACL
Modern Clinical Laboratories are considered an important component of Medical and Public Health Services. The laboratory data they provide are an integral part of decision-making in the health services especially in the diagnosis and management of patients. Therefore the quality and reliability of data generated by the clinical laboratories has been a concern to pathologists, medical technologists and clinicians. Moreover, with increased mobility of patients and the globalization of medical services, the variation of results among clinical laboratories with a country or between countries have made it necessary to set up mechanisms to assure the reliability and comparability of such for diagnostic purposes.
The Asian Network for Clinical Laboratory Standardization and Harmonization (ANCLSH) was established in Jakarta, Indonesia in February 1999. Since then, five (5) Asian Quality Assurance Surveys (AQuAS) have been conducted with over 30 hospital laboratories from 8 countries participating, 3 of them in the Philippines. To collaborate with this Regional initiative, the Council carried out four (4) Hematology NEQAS surveys and three (3) Clinical Chemistry NEQAS surveys in the past three years. Subsequently, education activities such as the First Annual Convention on Quality Management will be held to address the problems uncovered by the Surveys. The PCQACL has established the category of Institutional Membership for clinical laboratories, both hospital-based and freestanding, government and private. This will allow such laboratories to participate in the planning and policy-making of the various survey and educational activities of PCQACL PCQACL BOARD MEMBERS 2009-2010
